An IPL sterilization device according to an embodiment comprises: a lamp for outputting light including a visible ray region to sterilize a region including the surface of an object; a capacitor for transferring a charged voltage to the lamp; and a control unit for controlling the capacitor. The control unit controls the lamp to be driven in an output-possible state or an output-impossible state; when the lamp reaches the object overheating condition in the output-possible state, switches the lamp to the output-impossible state; and after reaching the object overheating condition and switching to the output-impossible state, switches the lamp to the output-possible state when the object overheating condition is deviated. The output-possible state is a state in which the capacitor applies a driving pulse to the lamp, and thus the lamp can output light. The output-impossible state is a state in which the lamp cannot output light because the capacitor does not output a driving voltage to the lamp.
