Description:
"IMPROVED HAIR DRYER" This report describes a manual hair dryer of the type normally used in beauty salons and similar establishments, which incorporates an improvement that is specifically related to the incorporation, on the referred equipment, of an ionizing device that produces negative and positive ions.

As professionals who work with electrical and/or electronic projects know, a properly installed high voltage source may emit large quantities of negative ions. These professionals also know that a generator of negative ions is essentially similar to an electrostatic generator device that produces high voltage.

Based on this functional principle, in the 1970' s air purification devices were launched, which contained ionizing devices on the inside that promoted the ionization of the air that passed through the inside of the equipment, and the result was the purification of the ambient air. On the other hand, electrostatic energy is also naturally generated, for example, when hair is brushed with combs or brushes made of plastic.

Under these circumstances, the friction caused between the hair and the comb (or brush) , causes a change in electrical charges, making the hair electrostatically charged positively.

When hair carries a positive

charge, they tend to stand up or get frizzy, and the frizziness is proportional to the charge held by it.

In a certain way, the static electricity ends up harming, the quality of the styled hair in some cases, since the hair, when charged with static electricity, tends to not assume the desired style, and that phenomena is easily verified on days that are dry with little humidity in the air.

Given this inconvenience, an improved hair dryer was developed, which is the object of patent request PI 0303784-3, deposited by the applicant herein, on 09/04/2003, entitled "Improved Hair Dryer".

In the said patent request, the hair dryer is particularly characterized by the fact that it incorporates an ionizing device that generates negative ions that are pulled through the air current that moves through the equipment and are directed at the hair of the user, infusing them with negative ions.

The ionizing effect produced by the proposed hair dryer allows positive charges in the hair (responsible for the frizzy effect) , generated, for example, by the use of plastic combs or brushes, to be neutralized by the negative ions that are administered through the flow of drying air using the ionizing device that is incorporated into the dryer.

One of the objectives of this patent request to be met is the fact that, in addition to the hair dryer having the conventional components within its

structure, like a resistor, electric motor, turbine or rotor moved by said electrical motor, etc., it also has an ionizing device, which, due to the fact that it allows the neutralization of any positive static charges present in the hair through the generation of negative ions, may allow a greater quality to be obtained when styling hair in general.

Another objective of the said invention privilege patent request (PI 0303784-3) is to provide a hair dryer with an ionizing device, in a way that the said ionizing device, given its technical characteristics, can be safely operated by the user.

Further with respect to the aforementioned patent request, the improved hair driver includes a casing unit 1, wherein an electrical motor 2 is assembled, which activates a rotor or turbine 3, which generates a flow of axial air that moves through the device and comes into contact with the heating element represented by a resistor 4, duly mounted in a spacing structure 5.

The casing 1 of the dryer also has a handle 6, from which an electrical cable 7 is attached allowing the device to be connected to an electrical network, the said handle 6 also has keys 8 that command, independent, both the turning on of the electrical motor 2, as well as the activation of the resistor 4; the hair dryer of document PI 0303784-3 also has an ionizing device 9 that is in essence a high voltage source with a limited current.

The ionizing device 9 is connected to the conventional electrical circuit of the

device, and is activated at the same time that the electrical motor 2 is turned on, or further, when the electrical motor 2 and resistor 4 are turned on at the same time. In the said patent document PI

0303784-3, the ionizing device is illustrated in a schematic way, which in and of itself is a rather well known component.

From the ionizing device 9, at least one cable 10 is attached, isolated by a sheath 11, and said cable 10 goes through the central region of the spacing structure 5 where the resistor 4 is assembled.

At the end of the cable 10 an element is connected in the shape of a needle 12 that is essential conical in shape, with a pointed end 13.

The element in the shape of a needle 12 is the active pole X, which is preferentially positioned near the extreme anterior of the spacing structure 5, which is also the point with the greatest air flow speed that moves through the dryer and that therefore presents the greatest efficiency and output to take advantage of the ions produced by the device 9.

The hair dryer described above presents a clear advance in technical terms, because it incorporated a device into the function that is brand new.

During its research, the

Applicant discovered that under certain use conditions (styling hair) , the production of positive ions may also be

desirable, for example, when the hair is excessively negatively charged.

As such, the material described in this invention privilege patent request was developed, which concerns the exclusive provision of a hair dryer with a circuit that is capable of generating both negative ions (as proposed in PI 0303784-3), as well as positive ions, a fact that significantly expands the possibilities for using the hair dryer. In other words, the improved hair dryer described herein is based on the improved hair dryer described in the patent request PI 0303784-3 and is innovative in that incorporates therein the joint positive and negative ionization function. The improved hair dryer covered herein will be described according to the figures listed below, whereby: Figure 1 illustrates a general and schematic view of the hair dryer, which incorporates the circuit that generates the negative and positive ions; and Figure 2 illustrates the electrical diagram for the circuit that generates both the negative as well as the positive ions that are the subject of this invention privilege patent.

Pursuant to what is illustrated in the figures listed above, the improved hair dryer that is the subject of this invention privilege patent covers the casing unit 1, wherein an electrical motor 2 is assembled, which activates a rotor or turbine 3 which

generates a flow of axial air that moves through the device and comes into contact with the heating element represented by a resistor 4 and 5 duly mounted in a spacing structure assembled in the casing. The casing 1 of the dryer also has a handle 6, from which an electrical cable 7 is attached, which allows the device to be connected to an electrical network, said handle 6 also has keys 8 that command, independent, both the turning on of the electrical motor 2, as well as the activation of the resistor 4; the hair dryer of document PI 0303784-3 also has an ionizing device 9 that includes the electrical circuit C.

The electrical circuit C defined described in figure 2 includes, in addition to the heating resistors 4 and 5, indicated respectively as Rl and R2, a positive ion generator Tl and a negative ion generator T2.

The ionization device 9 is connected to an electrical circuit for the device and is turned on at the same time as the electrical motor 2, or further when the electrical motor 2 and the electrical resistances 4 and 5 are turned on at the same time.

The improved hair dryer covered herein brings together into one device the ability to produce the negative ions covered in patent request PI 0303784-3 with the innovation covered herein, which concerns the ability to also generate positive ions and the generation of either type of ion is obtained through the

switching between the Tl and T2 generators.
