Abstract:
This gear stage estimation method estimates the gear stage of a switchable transmission device (30) of an electric-assisted bicycle (10) that comprises a motor (M) and the switchable transmission device (30), the switchable transmission device (30) being provided in a power transmission path between the motor (M) and a rear wheel (78) and is capable of switching n gear stages. The gear stage estimation method comprises: a step for acquiring, at a first time, a detected gear ratio Rd that is the gear ratio in a transmission section constituting the entirety or a part of the power transmission path including the switchable transmission device (30); and a step for comparing the acquired detected gear ratio Rd with n preset gear ratios Ri that are set within the range of gear ratios that the n gear stages may take, and estimating that the gear stage of the switchable transmission device (30) is an m-th stage if the detected gear ratio Rd matches an m-th preset gear ratio Ri.
