Abstract:
Disclosed are a friction stir welding apparatus and method. The apparatus comprises: a stirring rod provided with a hollow cavity, a clamping body, a welding machine main shaft, a supporting trolley, a cooling apparatus, a water tank, a guide rail, and a guide pipe; the cooling apparatus is connected to the outer surface of the welding machine main shaft via a sealed bearing; the clamping body is connected to the welding machine main shaft; the clamping body clamps one end of the stirring rod; the other end of the stirring rod penetrates through a workpiece being welded and is matched with the supporting trolley; the guide rail is arranged below the supporting trolley; the guide pipe comprises a first guide pipe and a second guide pipe; one end of the first guide pipe is connected to an outlet of the water tank, and the other end is connected to an inlet of the cooling apparatus; and one end of the second guide pipe is connected to a cooling liquid outlet of the supporting trolley, and the other end is connected to an inlet of the water tank. In the present invention, a stirring rod is made of an identical or similar material to that of a workpiece being welded, thereby reducing stirring head costs; cooling is applied to the stirring rod, thereby improving welding stability; and the stirring rod passes through the workpiece, thereby improving welding quality and welding efficiency.
