Abstract:
A forward monitoring system comprises: a laid surface point group removal unit that removes a laid surface point group from sensor output; a first narrowing unit that extracts a first trajectory candidate object by comparing the cross-sectional shape of an object, which is information contained in the removed remnant, with a trajectory cross section stored in memory by a computer; a second narrowing unit that detects a second trajectory candidate object by comparing the width of the first trajectory candidate object and the width of the trajectory cross section; and a trajectory curve complementing unit that recognizes a trajectory by complementing a trajectory object including the second trajectory candidate object. The sensor output includes a point group corresponding to the trajectory and a point group corresponding to the laid surface of the trajectory, the laid surface point group removal unit extracts information on the object from the sensor output, and the trajectory curve complementing unit recognizes the extracted object as a trajectory and assists in determining the presence or absence of obstacles in the vicinity of the object. Due to this configuration, there is provided a forward monitoring system capable of stably recognizing a trajectory even when a point group corresponding to a trajectory acquired by a sensor is unstable.
