Abstract:
An electric toothbrush (2) is provided with: a handle portion; a brush head portion (6) extending from the handle portion along a predetermined axis; and a brush (8) implanted in the brush head portion (6). Further, the electric toothbrush is additionally provided with a first drive portion which is installed in the handle portion to cause the brush (8) to perform a brushing action, and a second drive portion which causes the brush head portion (6) to rotate about the predetermined axis (24). Furthermore, the electric toothbrush is also provided with: a tooth axis detecting portion for detecting a tooth axis (48) of a tooth (44); and a control portion which controls the second drive portion on the basis of the detection result from the tooth axis detecting portion such that a brush angle φ of the brush (8) relative to the tooth axis (48) is a predetermined angle. It is thus possible to provide an electric toothbrush (2) with which the brushing effect of tooth brushing can be enhanced.
