Abstract:
Provided is a production method with which it is possible to obtain (E)-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene with high yield, even when a catalyst which contains alumina having a high sodium content is used. This (E)-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene production method comprises an isomerization step in which (Z)-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene is brought into contact with a catalyst containing alumina, and the (Z)-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene is isomerized to (E)-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene. The alumina is a porous material having a plurality of pores, and the central pore diameter is from 5-40 nm, inclusive. The proportion of the total volume of pores, among all of the pores in the porous material, having a pore diameter within a range from the central pore diameter -50% to the central pore diameter +50%, inclusive, is at least 70% with respect to the volume of all of the pores.
