Abstract:

The purpose of the present invention is to provide a high-performance polarizing element having a high degree of polarization, high contrast, and high durability, and a polarizing plate and liquid crystal display device which use the polarizing element. A polarizing element characterized by containing, on a substrate, at least one species of azo compound represented by formula (1) or a salt thereof (compound A), and at least one species of azo compound represented by formula (2-I), (2-II), (3), (4-I), (4-II), (5-I), or (5-II) or a salt thereof (compound B).
