Abstract:
Provided are a diffuser, an illumination unit, and an illumination device which are thin and capable of simultaneously achieving suppression of color unevenness and reproduction of the sky. This diffuser is for emitting scattered light after receiving first light and is obtained by layering a scattering layer (30) that achieves a prescribed scattering performance with respect to the first light and a transmission layer (40) that transmits the first light. The diffuser has a light entry surface (f21) through which the first light enters and a main surface on which a first light exit surface (f22) for emitting scattered light is formed. The light entry surface is formed at an end surface constituting a first end of the main surface. The diffuser functions as a waveguide for causing the first light having entered therein to travel back and forth between the scattering layer and the transmission layer. The scattering layer includes an optical medium (302) of a nano-order size and generates the scattered light by scattering the first light entered therein by means of the nano-order size optical medium. The correlated color temperature of the scattered light is higher than that of the first light.
