Abstract:
A system for detecting misfolded proteins or aggregates thereof in a biological sample. The system comprises: (a) a light absorption or light reflection detection unit, and/or a photographing unit; and (b) a container, wherein the container holds a liquid biological sample that contains or possibly contains misfolded proteins or aggregates thereof, and is a urine sample or a placenta tissue sample from a pregnant woman; and the container is placed in a detection region or a photographing region of the system. The system can be used for diagnosis and prediction of diseases characterized by the presence of misfolded proteins, for example, can be used for diagnosing whether a pregnant woman suffers from pre-eclampsia or has the risk of pre-eclampsia. The system is implemented by means of a device (100) for detecting misfolded proteins in a biological sample. The device (100) comprises a housing (102). The housing (102) may comprise one or more fluid chambers. The housing (102) defines a fluid receiving chamber (104), a fluid separation chamber (106) and a fluid collection chamber (108).
