Title:
DEVICE AND METHOD FOR CONTINUOUS REMOVAL OF IMPURITIES FROM MOLTEN METAL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2019/097799
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Provided are a continuous impurity removal device and method wherein: an inlet-side closing end plate and an outlet-side closing end plate are provided in a molten metal flow passage body; the front and rear of the molten metal flow passage are partitioned to form an impurity removal space; an electrode device configured from an inlet-side electrode and an outlet-side electrode is provided inside the impurity removal space, and current is applied in a longitudinal direction that is the direction of the molten metal flow; a magnetic field device configured from a pair of permanent magnets that are arranged such that opposite poles of the respective magnets are facing each other is provided in a width direction crossing the longitudinal direction to form a magnetic field in the molten metal; the outlet-side electrode is provided floating in the impurity removal space so that a first gap open in the vertical direction is formed between said outlet-side electrode and the bottom surface of the molten metal flow passage body, and a second gap open in the horizontal direction is formed between said outlet-side electrode and the outlet-side closing end plate; a Lorentz force is applied downward onto the molten metal in the impurity removal space to increase the density of the molten metal, and the impurities in the molten metal are floated to the surface of the molten metal; and the molten metal that is further inside than the outlet-side electrode is pressure-fed to the second gap via the first gap.
