Abstract:
A cutting tool includes a rake face, a flank face, and a cutting edge part, wherein the cutting tool is provided with a substrate and an AlTiN layer. The AlTiN layer includes cubic AlxTi1-xN crystal grains, where an atomic ratio x of Al ranges from 0.7 to less than 0.95. The AlTiN layer includes a central part. When, in a cross section of the AlTiN layer sectioned along a plane including a normal line to the rake face and a normal line to the flank face, a crystal orientation of each of the AlxTi1-xN crystal grains is identified by electron backscatter diffraction analysis and a color map is generated based thereon, a proportion of an area of the central part at the rake face with (111) plane orientation crystal grains is 80% or greater, and a proportion of an area of the central part at the cutting edge part with (111) plane orientation crystal grains ranges from 50% to less than 80% in the color map.
