Abstract:
Provided in the present application are a communication method and apparatus, which are used for increasing the probability of a network managing to page a terminal device. The method comprises: according to a first rule or a second rule, determining a first discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle beyond a paging time window of a first extended discontinuous reception (eDRX) configured by a core network device, and according to the first DRX cycle, monitoring paging beyond the paging time window of the first eDRX, wherein the first rule is used for determining a DRX cycle, which is within the paging time window of the first eDRX, of a terminal device in an idle state, and the second rule is used for determining a DRX cycle, which is beyond the paging time window of the first eDRX, of the terminal device in an inactive state. In the embodiments of the present application, a rule for a terminal device in an RRC_INACTIVE state to determine a DRX cycle beyond a paging time window is specified, such that a DRX cycle determined by an access network device is the same as that determined by the terminal device, and thus the probability of the access network device managing to page the terminal device can be increased.
