Abstract:
This coated tool has a base material and a hard coating film on the base material. The hard coating film has an A layer provided on the base material and a B layer provided on the A layer. The A layer is a nitride or carbonitride containing 50 at% to 70 at% Al and 30 at% to 50 at% Cr with respect to the total amount of elemental metals (including metalloids). The B layer is a nitride or carbonitride containing 70 at% to 85 at% Al and 15 at% to 30 at% Cr with respect to the total amount of elemental metals (including metalloids). The B layer has smaller particles than the A layer. Observation with a transmission electron microscope reveals that the B layer has phases with different striped-shape light/dark regions. The phases of different shades have a region containing a relatively large amount of Al and a region containing a relatively small amount of Al. The A layer and the B layer contain Ar.
