Abstract:
To provide a method for producing an N-alkyl polyhydroxyalkyl amine, to be concrete, an N-alkylamine polyol such as N-methylglucamine suitable for producing a fatty acid amide derivative having a low nickel content, excellent color and smell characteristics, useful as a surfactant for washing, etc.
This method produces an adduct of a primary amine to reducing sugar in an aqueous solvent. The sugar has < about 1 Gardner color. The method is carried out in a combination of temperature, time and the ratio of the amine to the sugar to bring about an equilibrium product having at least 90% adduct amount based on the sugar and < about 7 Gardner color.
