To provide a fluid coupling capable of eliminating slip (sliding) loss and improving the efficiency of power transmission by providing a clutch mechanism between a drive shaft and a driven shaft and making a rotational speed of the drive shaft of a prime mover equal to a rotational speed of the driven shaft.
In the fluid coupling, a fluid is used as a medium for the power transmission, and kinetic energy imparted to the fluid by vanes 4 provided at the drive shaft 1 driven by the prime mover for performing a pump action, causes vanes 5 provided at the driven shaft 9 for performing a turbine action, to rotate for the power transmission. Multiple disc clutches 7, 12 are provided between the drive shaft 1 and the driven shaft 9, and with the vanes 4, 5 filled with oil and rotational power transmitted, the multiple disc clutches 7, 12 are connected to each other to cause the drive shaft 1 and the driven shaft 9 to perform the power transmission at the same rotational speed.
